How to Do Business With Vulnerable Clients
When dealing with elder or vulnerable clients, Advisors wonder if their clients understand the implications of their choices, make informed decisions, or whether they are the subject of abuse or fraud. Government and regulators are concerned about the financial exploitation of vulnerable persons, and they are attempting, through laws or standards, to impose best practice rules to deal with this clientele. Most complaints and litigation come from clients over the age of 60. As the media are sensitive to vulnerable clients and issues that affect them, the reputation of advisors, firms and financial institutions is in their line of sight when they are the subject of a complaint or lawsuit involving a vulnerable client.
